Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

Packing OPUS 2027 into the 20' shipping container.

The shutter frame was placed across the far end of the container first. The pipe trays and the Manual Chest went in next and then the Console down one side.

The large wooden pipes were stacked over the pipe trays to form a relatively flat area onto which went the percussions, Toy Counter and traps, and the regulators.

The Switchstack and Relay went in opposite the console and the space between was filled with all the loose assorted pieces of timber. All the various bits of metal trunking went on top.

Finally the blower and Pedal Board and Chrys filled most of the remaining space.

Everything was lashed down as well as possible. Unfortunately shipping containers seem to only have tie points along the top of the sides with a few points near the doors. The most important rope is the one running around the front of the Console. Consoles are inherently top heavy and not very stable so it is important to prevent it from tipping forward.

A few stretegically positioned wooden battens screwed to the floor of the container also reduced the chances of anything sliding around.
