I have (my church has) a Wurlitzer relay cabinet, approximately 7' high, 4'
wide, and 2' thick which I will be replacing with electronic "relays". It
is a "multiplex" type of switch capable of controlling, approximately 20-25
ranks of pipes (I think), with a 2-manual console. (I can get exact specs if
anyone is interested). It is currently in use, but - of course - needs
work. I would describe it a "electro-pneumatic" as everything in it depends
on air, with (pipe chest type) of magnets controlling each note (key from
the console). It, most likely, is *not* from the 1916 Wurlitzer. If there
is anyone interested in using *real* Wurlitzer relays, it is restorable. It
would be nice to get *something* for the cabinet (trade for chest/pipes, or
even money) - as with most churches, we are sadly lacking in funds. Also
available is a Xylophone and Glockenspiel (both Wurlitzer, also probably
not the 1916).
Yes, the original Wurlitzer has been "ruined". It only has only 2 original
ranks of pipes (Vox Humana, and Open Principal). Adding "electronic relays"
will ruin it further. (This, of course, depends on the meaning of "ruin").
Please do not Flame me. I know the feelings of Wurlitzer purists. The
"Wurlitzer" stuff is only part of the parts from many different organs.
In the sanctuary, it is a beautiful instrument, and the congregation is
very happy.
