Wurlitzer Organ Trust of
Preserving Auckland’s historic Regent
Theatre Wurlitzer pipe organ.
Soon to be installed at the Playhouse Theatre, Glen Eden
Auckland, New Zealand
Our Purpose
The Wurlitzer Organ Trust of Auckland (WOTA) is a
registered not-for-profit charitable organisation
charged with the care and preservation of the now 3-manual 16-rank Wurlitzer
pipe organ, formerly the 2/8 Model F Wurlitzer installed in the Regent Theatre in
Queen St Auckland. The organ was housed
at the Hollywood Cinema in Avondale where it had been entertaining Auckland for
over 32 years. In August 2015, the Hollywood Cinema was sold and the Trust
requested to remove the organ by end of September. The Wurlitzer is now in storage pending installation
in its new home at the Playhouse Theatre, Glen Eden Auckland.
The Trust’s goal is to keep this unique form of musical entertainment alive by
presenting regular musical events and shows. These feature not just the organ
as a solo instrument, but also together with other artists, musical mediums,
and the accompaniment of silent movies - the original purpose behind the
creation of theatre pipe organs.
WOTA is registered with the NZ Charities Commission –
No. CC10966.
