ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
From: Deon Irish, June 1997
When the theatre was pulled down (ca. 1970), the instrument passed
into the ownership of Joe Churms, a local enthusiast. He died two
years ago and left the organ to anyone who was prepared to give it a
home and maintain it. The offer was taken up by the Opera House here
in Cape Town and has now been installed. The opening concert is later
this month.
From: Don Gibbs, Feb. 2005
It was installed in the early 90’s, played for the opening night and is now forgotten.
But it is complete and in good condition.
It doesn’t make a sound because the electrical supply cuts off the moment it is
switched on – so there is a short circuit somewhere.
