At the time the organ was removed from the RKO Albee Theatre, the theatre was not in short-term danger of being razed, though its long-term future was doubtful. As part of RKO's program to unload its remaining organs through charitable donation, it was donated by RKO to a local college which owned Emery Theatre and became a part of the University of Cincinnati. The RKO Albee Theatre continued to operate for 6 more years after the organ was removed, until it closed on September 17, 1974.
