Overview

The L.T.O.T, was formed in 1968 by a small group of organ enthusiasts who were concerned that organs were being lost to the public, because of cinema and theatre closures. The main aims of the Trust are to preserve theatre organs and organs in general, and encourage young talent on the pipe organ.

Since its formation, among its many achievements has been the removal and re-installation of three important organs. The Wurlitzer Organ from the Odeon, Manchester into the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, the Christie Pipe Organ from the Odeon (ex- Pyramid) Sale, into the Blue Coat School, Oldham and the Tudor Rose Wurlitzer from the Gaumont, Manchester into the Granada Studios Tour Complex, Manchester. The Trust has also restored to playing condition the Willis Orchestral Organ, at Tatton Hall in Knutsford, Cheshire. In a few months time the Wurlitzer Organ in the Free Trade Hall will be removed and put into store, to await re-installation in its new home, the Hulme Hippodrome, in Manchester, which is to undergo a massive restoration and expansion programme to create a national centre for the Music Hall. This work will be part of a three year project to rejuvenate and re-develop the Hulme area as a whole.

Technical Help

All the people who work for the Trust are unpaid volunteers and in view of the tremendous amount of work that lies ahead, Eric Halsall, Head of the Technical Team is anxious to recruit new helpers and, in particular those who have some hands-on experience in electrical, carpentry or plumbing work. So if you would like to join Eric and his team, please write to him at 16 Woodland Crescent, Prestwich, Manchester M25 9WQ.

Membership

While the past years of steady support have enabled the Trust to become one of the leading World Wide Preservation Groups, the success of future projects will rely on the continued support of the members, general public and commercial organisations. You can help, simply by purchasing some items from this brochure. If you're not a member, please consider joining. Members receive the Trust's Journal, Vox Lancastria and Newsletters with details of forthcoming concerts.
