These formulae were kindly sent in by Roy Salmons (Area 3 Co-ordinator). Weighers
& mixers may like to give them a try. If you try these please let us know how you get on.
BLIX FORMULA 1:
Sodium Thiosulphate crystals 220 g.
Ammonium Chloride 60 g.
Sodium Bicarbonate 20 g.
Thiocarbamide 5 g.
EDTA NaFe 30 g.
Water to make 1 Litre.
(The hypo crystals and ammonium chloride can be substituted by Ammonium Thiosulphate).
BLIX FORMULA 2:
EDTA NaFe 40 g.
EDTA Acid 4 g.
Potassium Iodide 1 g.
Ammonia (20% solution) 10 ml.
Ammonium Thiosulphate 100 g.
Sodium sulphite anhydrous 2 g.
Sodium (or ammonium) Thiocyanate 20% solution 50 ml.
Water to 1 Litre.
(Try pH values between 6.6 to 7.7).
These figures are for 1 Litre sizes. If you wish to reduce them to 250ml, 300ml or 600ml
sizes, simply take the 1 Litre figures, divide by 100, then multiply by 25, 30 or 60 for
the required amounts.
