EDITORIAL More sad news with the loss of yet another CRC Stalwart, Area 26 Leader, Arthur McKee died suddenly in June, only a week or so after his excellent Cibachrome prints were exhibited at the Didcot meeting and just before his Sillhuete and article "The Tracklayers" appeared in the July Newsletter. Arthur, who lived alone, was 75 and had been the Irish Leader for most of the CRC`s existence. He was a warm friendly man who would help anyone whether in his Area or not. He had been a great help to me as Editor by entering numerous articles for copy and gave great encouragement for the Didcot meetings. He will be sadly missed. Our thanks to Area 26 members, John Wilson, for distributing the Area Newsletters, and David Lewis, for passing on the news and reporting on the replacement Area Leader, Frank Redhead, of Belfast. The Central Committee welcome Frank in his new role and hope that he will have a very successful and rewarding Leadership. Once again printing quality of B&W prints has alluded us. Getting them done professionally is too expensive. Our Librarian, Eddie Pearce tried a scanning method, but while acceptable in the direct copy, didn`t work well on final printing. George Sparkes did a fine job of taking and printing the originals. It is a shame the final presentation didn`t do justice to his work. We thank Eddie and George for their efforts and hope we can eventually find a cheaper source for « tone prints, without breaking the bank. Apologies for some errors in my article "More Problems Mate!" on page 13 of the July Newsletter. Firstly Pot. Metabisulphite is an acid and not alkali, and will lower pH not raise it. I also called this chemical Metabisulphate instead of Metabisulphite. This appears to be a general error. The fact is there is only METABISULPHITE, but of course there are two types, Potassium and Sodium metabisulphite. I can only put this down to my ignorance of chemicals of which I am slowly learning about since trying weighing & mixing. One more lesson of which I am sure there will be more. It is intended to hold another AGM & Open Meeting next year, but the date and booking of the rooms have still to be confirmed. However it will take place within a week either side of the last meeting and will try to avoid the holiday weekend. Area 20 member, Bob Grimes gives a nice report in the letter page for which I thank him, but ask you to take heed of what he has to say and do all you can by way of slide programmes, Print exhibition or displays. For those who haven`t anything to show we do ask that you try to come along in greater numbers and give as much support as possible. Summer was slow to come again this year, but there has been some nice spells when I hope that you have been able to shoot some good slides and have successful processing. Ed. |
