LATEST FILM AND CHEMICAL NEWS (Cont.)

NEW STABILISATION
for improved resistance to dye fading under prolonged projection plus superior dark storage characteristics.

NEW ACUTANCE DYES
which give greater sharpness and optimum reproduction of the original scene, allowing maximum detail from shadows to highlights.
The new fast film is not DX Coded, the photographer indicates the speed used on the label. The whole film is exposed at that speed. A chart is supplied with the film which indicates the time of the first development needed when processing at either 800asa; 1600asa; or 3200asa. The film is not available in the shops only to professionals and ourselves. I hope to test a cassette at Silverstone in the summer -- more news of it then.

We have been staggered by the response you have given to the new chemical supply. About 15% of the membership have ordered a conversion kit to have a go with the formula. Thank you folks!!! First results that I have seen have been very good. Remarks from members are very encouraging. I am using it with 3M 100asa and am delighted with the result. I have also seen better Konica slides than ever before. I think this is because the E6 First Developer is not so contrasty as the Moorhouse type, so better shadow detail shows in the slides.

One of the nice things that has ocurred is that quite a few members who have not made up their own solutions for years are dusting off their balances and having a go at the new formula. Best of luck to you all.

We have had some trouble getting BDH Chelating agent. The snag has been that BDH are no longer making it. Rayco's new Director in Barnsley very kindly did some research on Chelating agents for us and sent a sample of one which he thought to be identical with No.4 to test. The solutions I made up gave me super slides and a supply of Rayco No.4 is on its way to me.

You will be able to see some samples of slides developed in the new formula at Didcot. I will have a light box: Wotan Diastar; and some projected slides for all to see, plus a stock of 3M and Konica film.

If you have trouble putting titles and spots on to plastic slide mounts then have a look at a device which I am using with great success. There will be samples on the sale stand for you to try.

E6 FORMULA CORRECTION

An enquiry was raised on the figure for Potassium Thiocyanate in the First Developer being a 10% solution. This in fact should have read "of a 20% solution"..
