KIT PROCESSING -
For those of you who are new to Home
Processing it is logical to begin by using a kit to
develop your first few films. The equipment needed is
quite modest and the operations are very simple.
Before a start can be made, certain items of equipment
need to be collected. They are as follows:-
1) 1 litre graduate or measure for mixing chemicals.
2) Thermometer, mercury type if possible.
3) Developing tank, a double is a good idea.
4) Minute timer.
5) A number of dark bottles to take the mixed chemicals.
6) Plastic bucket to contain warm washing water.
7) Plastic bowl to contain water bath for chemical
bottles. This can keep the water and chemicals at exactly
the right temperature if a UNO Thermostatic Heater is
placed in the bowl.
Instructions contained in the kits are very
comprehensive, yet easy to understand. But do not try to
take short cuts. It is essential
to follow the leaflet EXACTLY. Do not expect Near
enough to give you good results.
The chemicals are best mixed the day before they are
required so that they can have a period to stabilise
before use.
Film must be loaded into the tank in either a changing
bag, or in a blacked out wardrobe (or small room). From
then on all operations
can be carried out in daylight.
Developing tanks are available which will take from 1 to
5 films. The large tanks are good when there are a large
number of films to
be developed. It takes no longer to develope five films
than it does to develop one.

All kits are meant to be universal and can process any E6
type film. Kodak`s E6 kit is balanced to give excellent
results with Ektachrome and acceptable results with other
films. Apart from this, each kit has its own
characteristics which cause a slight colour bias.
Each film too has its own colour bias and whilst the
effect of these is quite acceptable, it is really a
matter of personal taste as to
which combination you use.
