SECRETARY'S NOTES
This is a first for me. Although through the years I have held a number of amateur society committee posts I can’t ever recall being a Secretary. If members think I do the job in a satisfactory manner you can vote me into the post next year. If you reckon you can do the job more efficiently then it won’t offend me if you put yourself (or someone else) forward for the post. Meanwhile I’m here and intend to be a constitutional dictator! If situations lead to a choice between keeping the Club going and “rules”, then, as far as I am concerned, the rules can go out of the window. That might not please some, but that’s my intention and you have the choice of booting me out if you don’t approve. That’s the constitutional bit!
The Club has been in the doldrums for a while, but, with your help - and it doesn’t have to be a chore- we’ll rise phoenix-like and all enjoy ourselves in the process. Just remember the old saw: “You don’t stop doing things because you get old; you get old because you stop doing things!” So make a mid-year resolution to expose a slide film before another summer has gone by. Then sort out a few shots that fit one theme and send them to Bill Reid, preferably with some information, which could just be the exposure details, or anything else that takes your fancy. Short of ideas? Contact your nearest Tourist Information Centre - they all seem to produce leaflets on what is going on, so why not make use of the facilities!
Thanks . . .
First of all a big ‘thank you’ to John Pearle who has been negotiating with the publishers of Practical Photography magazine for us, as a postal club, to enjoy their special offer terms for a 6 month trial period. Try it and choose either a monopod or holdall FREE. If you haven’t had one of the packs from John direct, and think you would like to subscribe to Practical Photography, then ask your Area Co-ordinator for a PP pack.
Secondly, thanks to Bill Reid, who, in spite of horrendous shifts at work, has put much time and effort into keeping the CRC Newsletter going, even when copy has been slow coming in. We have had one member voicing an opinion that there has been little technical advice lately, but plenty of illustrations. We have also had a number of members who have been pleased with the publication of others’ work. As far as technical matters go, we do have a technical officer in the person of Lawrence Edwards. Lawrence tells me that he is not exactly overworked by those enquiring after his expertise, but if you do have processing puzzles Lawrence will gladly put pen to paper for Bill to put the problem and the solution in these pages. That way we all benefit.
Thirdly, a very big thank you to those who have boosted my confidence with kind comments and offers of help to get the Club back to its glory days. Your words and deeds are truly appreciated.
Roy Salmons.
