SECRETARY`S NOTES

Another Summer has flown past with a huge addition to the number of slides in my collection. In some parts of the country
the weather has been awful,in others perfect for photography. Friends visiting Scotland have reported rain on every day of
their holiday. We sometimes had rain in the night, but that gave us big cumulus clouds in the day, perfect for good slides.

In the past year I have done endless experiments to try and eliminate problems caused by excess red in slides. My efforts
got duller and darker as time went on, which was most dispiriting. I have now reverted to the formula in the handbook
altered slightly as regard to the amount of Potassium hydroxide in the developers. This is necessary as the pH values of
the developers has risen. First Developer is now 10.0 pH with 55.3 ml 10% Potassium hydroxide per Litre. Colour Developer
is now 12.05 pH with 28.43 grms Potassium hydroxide per Litre. I am pleased with the results I am now getting and do not
intend to change in the near future.

I have recently been privileged to see the video tape that has made of Tony Chuter & Dave Morrell`s slides of the restoration
of the first Iron Battleship, "Warrior". It is a great tribute to the quality of Tony`s work. He feels that it could be used to show
the quality Home processed slides using the Club formula and processing methods. Copies are available from Tony @ £7.50
plus £1.20 post and packing. Send to:- 44. Lingwood Close, Bassette, SOUTHAMPTON, Hants. S01 7GF..

A gadget which should help those of you who weigh and mix your chemicals came for inspection from Bert Sanders,
Co-ordinator of Area 15. It is a Baxa Oral Medicine syringe. At first sight it looked like a normal 5 ml syringe, but the tube out
of the syringe will not fit needles. Now comes the unusual bit. You are supplied with a stepped bottle adaptor which contains
a small hole into which the syringe fits. The bottle is turned upside down to extract the required amount of fluid. The bottle
adaptor will fit other syringes from 2ml to 20ml. The syringe should be available from your local chemist.

If any member is having trouble like Bill in obtaining syringes, I have a selection which have kindly been supplied by one of
our members. Get in touch if help is required to obtain any missing sizes.

It is a big help if members send me an addressed label when they need film or chemicals. Turn round speed improves no end.
The type they need are 3½" x 1½" and are easily obtained. The postman can read these easily when the items you need are
returned to you.

Ron.
