- - SLIDE MOUNTING - - SLIDE MOUNTING. When your transparencies have been developed they will need to be placed in mounts so that you may handle them safely. The mounts also hold the transparency flat, (some more flat than others). Mount material varies from simple self adhesive card, to elaborate plastic with glass inserts. Have a good look at as many types as possible before you decide on the type you will use. It is best to stick to one type so that you do not have to use mounts of different thicknesses in a projector. The focus of the projector will be constant. Make sure that the slide is centred properly in the mount before it is sealed. You may cut your transparencies with scissors with care, but it is better to invest in a small trimmer which will cut the ends exactly 90 degrees every time. The better ones are illuminated to help position the roll of film correctly. TYPES OF MOUNT AND SUPPIES TYPE. REMARKS SUPPLIER. Card. Thin easy to use - not so durable Holds transparency flat. Easy to write title on. A bit thin for some projectors to handle. Plastic. Most common type. Easy to use. First Call Folding type) Almost as cheap as the card type. Some of the thinner types cause distortion when projected. Plastic. Simple to use - good quality. First Call. (Slip in type) Keeps the transparency flat. Price is very reasonable. Gepe. High quality - rather pricy. Geof. Creighton: (Plastic Keeps Transparency flat with Jessop: Local glassless) no distortion of mount under Photostores: heat. Mounting press available. Capital Cameras. Gepe. Glass protects the film from Jessop: Most (Glass) dust, finger marks etc. There is photoshops. a snag in that Newtons rings can form, and so can mould over a long period of time. Very expensive. Many workers use a pair of thin cotton gloves when mounting their transparencies. This prevents finger marks on the film. Others find them too clumsy to use and take care to handle the film by it's edges only. |
