WHAT'

ETI ELECTRONIC TEMPERATURE INSTRUMENTS LTD. CATALOGUE.
An interesting catalogue from ETI came my way in which it shows and describes the full list of digital thermometers, including a pH meter.
While most of their equipment is for the `professional` market, there are three in particular which I thought might interest CRC members:-

THERMAPEN 3 MULTI-PROBE THERMOMETER (£49.50)
This is a neat handheld thermometer with a reasonable sized 8mm liquid crystal read out, but what makes it more interesting is
that it has an interchangeable probe, which simply plug into the front of the unit by a two-pin plug. Dimensions are; 150 x 45 x 19mm.

It`s range is from -50 to +850C with a resolution of 1C and an accuracy of +/- 0.5% +/- a 1 digit. Power is from a 12 volt MN21 battery (80p).

Other probes available are; 153-161 Penetration probe, with a fast response and suitable for liquids and semi-solids (Max. tip temp = 200C). £13.00 each. 153-301 Fast response probe for gas and air temperatures. (Max tip temp. = 200C) £12.00each. 153-045 Ribbon Surface Probe, ideal for a variety of surface temperatures. (Max. tip temp. = 200C) £14.50 each. All measure, 120 x 3.3mm.

However most likely for CRC use there are two similar thermometers with a fixed temperature probe:-

THERMAPEN 1 (Platimum probe) POCKET THERMOMETER (£43.50)
This has a range of -49 to +199.9C and a resolution of 0.1C and an accuracy of +/- 0.4C +/- 1 digit. 12 volt MN21 battery (100 hours use).

THERMAPEN 5 (K Thermocouple Probe) POCKET THERMOMETER (£32.50)
This has a range of -50 to +300C and a resolution of 1C and an accuracy of +/- 1% +/- 1 digit. 12 volt MN21 battery (200 hours).

PH METER
8000 pH KIT. This pH meter measures 30 x 80 x 140mm with a Elect. Cell sensor and a range of 0-14ph and a resolution of 0.01pH. It`s accuracy is +/- 0.02pH +/- 1 digit and uses a 9volt PP3 battery (200hours). A set of ten buffer capsuls are available in three standards; 4pH, 7pH and 9pH.

This item is a little expensive but is a complete unit with also a temperature check mode, but as those members who have built their own pH meters will agree, it is still a good all-in price.

Other probes are available; 823-501 plastic bodied Electrode suitable for general purpose,liquid and semi-solid measurements. 823-502, a strong glass spear shaped Penetration probe suitable for soil and other semi-solid materials. 823-503 is a glass spear shaped Penetration probe suitable for loose soil and other soft semi-solid materials.

KJP (Keith Johnson & Pelling Ltd.) TRIPODS
KJP part of the MANFROTTO group make professionally built Tripods, by no means cheap but of excellent and robust sturdiness, using all the latest fittings and technology to give smooth and vibration free movement of either cameras or lights etc.

As well as the standard tripod there are excellent monopods or flexible arms and suction mounts to fit your camera almost to any surface from the car to railings etc. They swivel through 30 degree to 90 degrees forwards and backwards to 360 degree swivel diameter. Ballheads range from Mini ball, midi ball, heavy duty ball, super ball to the Grip action ballhead which by a means of a hand grip lock allows the camera to be locked in any angle `sideways`. Some have gears for smooth rotation or panning.

An interesting point is the flexible `centering` allowing 16 positions for balancing. able to move the camera forward or backwards while firmly `fixed` in position, to allow you to move towards the subject by a few more inches than the tripod position allows. A quick release fitting to your camera allows it to be released quickly from the tripod head.

Dollies and spreaders can be added for rolling the camera like professional film makers. Or `Spiked tips on the feet of the tripod
give it a firm footing. Bars for two camera (3-D work) or lamps or flashguns can be added. There are so many add-ons to give

NEW ORWOCHROME RC100 (DX)
Most CRC members know of ORWO film, but many have been put off by the very high contrast of the previous film. This brand new film is 100asa and is said to have a very sharp image and very pleasant neutral skin tone. Price is £3.55 S.R.P.

DERMA SHIELD BY FOTOSPEED
This new darkroom product cuts down on the damage to hands while working with photographic chemicals. It is a barrier cream in an aerosol giving at least 200 applications. Price £13. 95 inc. V.A.T.

SPRAY STONE !
FleckStone has been developed for use on Studio props to create the effect of stone or granite. It is available in 15 different
colours which mimic soapy marbles, sandstone and deep greys. It can be sprayed onto wood, metal, china, glass,
styrofoam, stone, plastic and paper and is fast drying.

The produce has been developed by Plasti-Kote and is available in 500ml cans at £6 per can or discount on larger quantities.
