WHITE BORDERS ON CIBACHROME

(Arthur McKee APAGB)

Further to my article on the above in the issue No. 48 of the Newsletter it has come to my attention that the clearance specified by the Pearles in their Masking Frame to allow easy extraction of the paper could lead to uneven borders. Slight trimming can correct this. To avoid having to do this the following procedure will result in even borders.

The two sides of the paper which are to be burned out to white with the first exposure are pushed over to butt against the corresponding sides of the masking frame. The clearance between paper and frame will be below the mask which is positioned as described in my article. The first exposure is now given and the light switched off. The paper and mask are pushed in opposite directions to their diagonally opposite corners so that the sides of the paper to be acted on by the second exposure are against the corresponding sides of the masking frame. The mask will be in the position as indicated in my article. The second exposure is then made.

Another way to avoid this trouble is to have no clearance for the paper but to have one side of the masking frame removable so that the paper can be pushed out on this side.
