Joseph McCabe
Joseph McCabe currently resides in Buffalo, NY. He is attending the University at Buffalo, where he is in his final year of pursuing a degree in architecture. Recently he completed an internship under Collins Restoration and Shea's Buffalo Center for the Arts where he completed a building survey for restoration of this landmark 1926 movie palace. Future plans for education include attending a graduate school of architecture.
Joseph's love for pipe organs started early on when his parish church rebuilt their pipe organ. Since that time, he has spearheaded various projects including the 1925 Austin organ at the former South Presbyterian Church, restorative repairs to the rare 1929 Charles Viner Unit Organ, and removal of a large portion of the 1926 Wurlitzer at Sheas Buffalo Center for the Arts during the 1999 stage house expansion project for protective purposes. In 1997, the Organ Historical Society awarded Joseph with the E. Power Biggs Fellowship award for promotion of preservation and restoration efforts. Joseph also worked for 3 years with Schlicker Pipe Organs, a national organbuilding firm, gaining experience in voicing, tuning, maintaining, wiring, restoring and installation of organs. He currently is on the officers board as secretary for the BAC-American Theatre Organ Society (also held in 1997-1998).
In January of 2000, his duties as an active member of the OHS lead to the rescue of the 2 manual 1911 Tellers-Summerhoff organ from Sts. Peter's & Paul's Church in Hamburg. Only the pipe work was to be re-used in a new instrument the church had contracted for. Now in storage, the entire chassis of this instrument awaits a new home.
