Pittsburgh Area Theatre Organ Society, Inc.

Concert Review March 10, 2012

Here is what one patron had to say after the program……..

“Let me say that I'm not easily bowled over by organists, despite my love for the instrument.  Even major headliners don't necessarily thrill me. The reason: too rigid, too stiff, not enough emotion.  That's not to say that their playing isn't expert. It's just that there's a certain intangible that I'm looking for when I attend a concert.  And for the first time in a long while, Tony Thomas fulfilled my idea of a great organist. What a fine booking choice.  His jazz stylings and original improvisations were most exciting. I was heartbroken when Dan Bellomy passed away, because he was a proponent of jazz on the theatre organ. And I had hoped that he would return to Pittsburgh sometime. How wonderful that Tony fills the void. Wish I had known of him before.  I actually yelled "Bravo" after one of his numbers this afternoon. Never did that before.” - Dale Abraham

The video clip below was performed by our October, 2011 organist, Donnie Rankin.  It should give another indication of some of the things that can be done with a theatre organ.  Other video clips are included elsewhere in this website.
