Skating Rink, Adelaide

A small photoplayer type of instrument was installed for a while at a skating rink at the Eastern end of Pirie Street, Adelaide [Bill Binding, conversation with writer, 1975]. No details are known. It is conceivable that this might have been the Elite Skating Rink, which was fitted with 3000 seats and opened as the Paris Pictures in 1909 [Dylan Walker, "Adelaide's Silent Nights", Canberra, 1995, p.20]. It might, however, have been a different venue at a later date, to which one of the Adelaide theatre photoplayers was removed.
