The program
continued with several more Fats Waller selections including "Midnight
Stars and You" and "When Someone Thinks Your Wonderful". Dave swung into
a lively rendition of "Brazil' and when someone in the audience asked if
the organ had any "brass" Dave featured the Brass Trumpet for "Spanish
Flea" and "Tijuana Taxi" segueing back into "Brazil"as a finale to
the set.
As a nostalgic tribute
to his many friends and fans over the years, Dave played a very lush rendition
of
"Unforgettable" with
a footnote that his many friends made over the last 16 years are truly
'unforgettable'. Remembering that he had some unfinished business, Dave
picked up "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" from the the point where it had been
interrupted by the cipher. Then Dave went into a poingnant "Londonderry
Aire" (or Danny Boy if you must) finishing with variations on "Joyful,
Joyful We Adore You".
After a
standing ovation by the audience Dave returned briefly to finally close
the program with Happy Trails to You (until we meet again)"
As most of us adjourned
to the lobby to enjoy the abundance of refreshments, an open console
was enjoyed by those who wished to sample the abundance of musical treats
provided by the Mundelein Organ. |
