Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

The console of OPUS 2027 during its removal from the home of Walter Gelinas.

The only way to get the Console out of the house was through the kitchen window.

First the Console was slid, on its back, up the planks, over the kitchen sink, to the window ledge. Supporting the end of the planks on step ladders got the Console exactly horizontal as it had to be to just fit through the gap.

With the Console balanced on the window ledge the planks were slid through and the Console could then be eased the rest of the way out. There was a problem with the ground level being lower than the kitchen floor so it was neccessary to hold up the planks and the Console at full stretch while standing on our toes.

The planks were lowered down to be supported on the stack of full pipe trays. With a bit more sliding of the planks they were able to be lowered to the ground and the console slid gently to the ground.

This in not recommended treatment for consoles but when it is the only way you have to do it.
