Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

TRAPS RELAY

The Relay Pneumatics, when activated, make contact across the contact block wires to complete the required circuit.

The left magnet is triggered by the Traps Common wire which comes from each key of the Accomp Manual. It supplies power to a contact on each of the other actions which are connected to the Traps Tabs for the Accomp i.e Snare Drum, Tambourine, Castinets, Chinese Block, Tom Tom and Sleigh Bells. The Tab relays are turned on by the Tabs. If the tab is on and the Common relay is activated by playing a key then power goes through the common relay, via the tab relay to the Trap action magnet. This is used to reduce the power drawn through the key contacts. The tabs could be wired to the keyboard common, like the Pedal Traps Tabs, but if multiple tabs are on then the key contacts would be required to carry multiple levels of current. The contacts would be capable of doiing this, but would have a much shorter life span due to the extra arcing that would occur as the contacts open and close.
