Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

Magnet - Exploded View

The coils slide onto the poles.

The Armature Disk sits over the brass exhaust port in the cap.

Normaly the Armature seals the air inside the cap. Air moves down the opening between the poles and connects to the Primary Pneumatic. The internal air pressure helps push the Armature down.

When the magnet is powered the Armature is lifted towards the poles. This blocks the air entering the cap between the poles and opens the exhaust port. Air in the Primary Pneumatic is able to escape through the exhaust port so presure inside the chest squashes the Primary Pneumatic and forces the air out of the exhaust port.
