Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

BASS / KETTLE DRUM Action.

The large hammer, right, is the BASS DRUM action.
The two smaller hammers, left, provide the KETTLE DRUM Roll action.

The forward stop bars in front of the hammer pneumatics are adjusted to limit the forward movement of the hammers. They should be positioned so that when the hammers are activated they come to rest clear of the drum skin so that they do not dampen the vibration of the drum. The springs on the hammers allow the hammer heads to move beyond the rest postition, as they are thrown forward and the pneumatic stops sudennly against the stop bars, to strike the drum and return clear of the drum.
