Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

RE-FINISHING

This is the end of the 8' Flute Pipe Support. The end had previously been modified, possibly with a hachet, to fit around something. The wound was cleaned up and the timber restored with a new piece of timber.

After re-finishing the repair is still visible if you look carefully but is better than it was. Careful staining of the new timber would have made it less obvious but I think it is better that such repairs can be visible to those who may be working on it in the future. With a little more ageing the difference is likely to become even less obvious anyway.

Fortunately this was not common in this instrument.

The recess along the top of the support is for a strip of felt to cushion the pipes when they are in place.
