Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

VALVES

This is the Valve Plate which screws under the individual Magnet/Valve Boxes.

This one happens to be from a Tremulant but is identical to others found on 16' Offset Chests and other assemblies where individual actions are installed in the instrument. Other chests with mutiple valves use long strips with multiple holes.

The strip across the center has the hole which acts as the valve guide. In the mutli-action long valve plate strips the guide strip is screwed to the surface of the valve plate and not recessed as it is here.

The valve wire runs through the guide hole and the lower valve seats on the top of valve plate. When the action is operated the valve lifts away from the valve plate and air escapes through the round hole past the valve guide bar.
