Anatomy of a WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ

Manual Chest.

Brass inserts hold the screws which hold the bottom boards to the manual chests.

These are a common point of failure as can be seen at the top which has pulled out of the chest.

To the left of the top insert the end of a small phosphar-bronze pin can be seen. These pins are inserted into a groove in the side of the brass insert to prevent the insert from unscrewing when the screw is removed. This does not always work.

An insert which pulls from the wood or unscrews will cause damage to the bottom board and probably enable a leak to the adjacent holes.
