THE FORTH 'RAILWAY' BRIDGE
A visit to the north side of the Forth Bridge at North Queensferry in April 2009

Page Two of Three Pages

West side of the bridge looking south towards Edinburgh, across the Firth Of Forth

The old pier cobblestones are being reset. The pier closed in 1966 when the new road bridge was opened. It must have been quite a treck from here to the station at track level off to the far left.

A 3-Car Class 170 about to leave the north end of the bridge, heading for Aberdeen

The west side, on Battery Road that goes below the bridge to the coastal side of North  Queensferry

Left: North End Viaduct. Note the floodlights at the base of the tower. Right: The east side of the bridge looking south towards Edinburgh. The painting job
continues but the new 'shiney' paint will last up to 24 years before repainting is due again. Ending the days of continuous painting.

The buisiest area of the present painting & maintainance

The Worker's buildings and equipment. This image demonstrated the vastness of the connecting tubes and cross members

The new suspension bridge will eventally fill this scene even more in the near future

The northmost centre span between the two main arches. There are two of these.  The island in the foreground was a Battery during
the wars. The fortifications can be seen. The Pentland hills are in the background.
