INTRODUCING THE LABACHROME 100 & 400 ASA FILM

An interesting letter was received from Area 13 member, Frank M Beaumont who has a business called ‘ULTRAPRINT’ based at Dunstable Frank sent me a sample cassette of a West German film he came across while visiting the International Printing Exhibition ‘DRUPA 86’ in Dusseldorf . He also kindly sent a cassette to Ron Croad and Tony Chuter at my request. Frank also enclosed a slide frame he processed in the Arnold Moorhouse formula, in which it showed very good quality, although Frank did get a slight magenta. cast with his processing. The LABACHROME 100 has a nice warm colour balance something like Fujichrome, which. should appeal to many members.

A few weeks later Ron sent me samples of his processing using his modified ‘Moorhouse’ formula and there is no doubt that he has done an excellent job in processing. The slides were extremely colourful, bright and sharp and there’s no doubt that this is a fine film for those who like photographing the Autumn colours. Ron .displayed his slides during the committee meeting at Worcester and we were all nicely taken with the results. Here is Ron’s personal comments about the film - " The general quality of the Labachrome 100 iso Reversal film seems to b~ first class. Images are sharp and the definition seems to be good when projected As it is only available in cassettes there are no risks of scratches, which I know from bitter experience can be got from loading from Bilk. At the end of the first development stage the image on the emulsion is a very clear black and white This is quite different from the Fuji and Kodak emulsions which are grey, and orange respectively. At the end of the development process the film has the normal bluish shade and this disappears on drying to reveal the true colours. As far as I can see, these are pretty neutral and clean.

The exposures made in bright sunshine have particularly good colours and are very true, those taken in dull light conditions are like all the others not in the same class. Skin tones are neutral. All in all it seems to be a good buy for anyone who wants their film in cassettes rather than in bulk".
