OPEN MEETING REPORT

or the photographs which made a very rewarding record of their holiday. Along with Eric was one of most newest members to Area 11, Mr. C. Brown who presented (all to few) some excellent female model slides which of course was “ALL” in the best possible taste” and had our friends from Area 15 requesting how they could get membership to Area 11.

To complete Area 11’s contribution to our meeting, Eric ran a few minutes cassette tape message from Ron Knowles, whom you know has just gone through operations on his eyes.  It was a very moving talk on Ron’s experience of the period when he was unable to see very little, the trauma of the operation and the joy of being able to see things clearly again. Things still are not perfect, but with time and proper glasses for general viewing and reading all should be well. The Central Committee would like to wish Ron well for the future ‘and thank him for his continuing efforts during this difficult period in keeping his column “Here & There” going for all Our interests.

The final presentation of the day came from Area 9 Leader, Bob Lewis. These were main l3 CRX100 taken on a holiday to Rhodes, but also contained a sample of the latest Barfen CRXl00) which we suspect now is Konica rather than Fuji. Two slides taken with the same lens showed the different colour balance of the films. Since the meeting I have come into a 15m length of this film and on making them up into cassettes the different colour of the emulation was apparent. The Fuji based film has a yellow/Kaki colour while the old Sakurachrome and now Konica has a dull grayish appearance so it is obvious that the CRX100 is Konica0 There is nothing wrong with Konica film, indeed it is excellent, but the thing is that CRX100 users will buy this ‘film because of it’s much cheaper price and then find on processing that the colour balance isn’t what they expect. Likewise Barfen still package the film in the CRX100 carton with all the same technical details, which leaves one wondering how they stand in the Trades description Act. Many members find that their own ‘home Brew’ will process CRX100 perfectly, but not Konicachrome, so while kit users wont have any problems, except in the colour balance, home brew uses may have bought a supply which may be lost in processing If you have bought the latest film stock, please make a test strip first to find out the correct processing times to match this film and your camera settings and of course keep us informed of your results.

Arid so, the third Didcot meeting came to an end. Once again it was nice seeing old friends again and this time meeting some new ones. Many thanks to everyone for coming so far in quite nasty weather. Time seemed to pass all to quickly and having been kept busy with preparations and. seeing that refreshments were ready on time, I didn’t have the time to talk to individuals as much as I wished, but I enjoyed the day and hope that everyone else felt the same. Perhaps we can get together once more next year.
