PHOTOGRAPHING THE TV SCREEN
(Page Two)

DO NOT AGITATE THIS BATH. To relate an experience during the Christmas break, A colleague of mine, a Weekly Newspaper Photographer, asked me if I would process a 120 Ektachrome 200 film as all the Labs were closed for the break and he wanted the transparencies urgently.

Well I am only geared to 35mm as my Photoworld Kit 7 bath is made up in 200cc bottles and only had enough left of the Reversal and Bleach, Fixer and Stabiliser in these sizes but, did have two sets of First Developer and Colour Developer. One set. Partly-used. So I went ahead and used the Developers as a 400cc unit, which covers the Spiral and Film in the Thirst 120 size tank. But with only 200cc Chemicals for the rest of the process I had to continually agitate, by keeping the tank rolling in the tempered bath. Finally on inspection of the dry film, when viewed on my light box, all transparencies were perfect. I suppose if I had seen Bob’s letter first I would have to have given Light Reversal.

Changing the subject now, also over the Christmas period, I have been printing some 16" x 12” Pearl Cibachromes from 35mm transparencies, and not wanting to waste paper, I decided to cut one sheet up for test strips, cutting the sheet in half. I returned half the sheet to its package (in total darkness) cut the remaining half sheet to 6” x 4” then cut to 2” x 6” strips for test. Placed the test strip, on enlargement of face and colour and placed in the Durst 35mm tank and used 20cc of chemicals in the us Cibachrome instructions, dried and examined and apart from slight adjustments did the finished enlargement, and results were perfect.

What I am suggesting is you can have up to 16 Test Strips from one sheet and it seems to me quite an economical way to get the most from your Chemicals and Paper. I expect one could get away with using less than 20cc from this small tank. But I have never tried it yet.
