EDITORIAL

As Brian mentions in his comments, we have been looking into the worth of the I.A.C. license that covers re-recording and public performances of music from records & tapes.

From the information Colin sent us we have come to the conclusion that C. R. C. members are covered providing their presentations are done as a C. R. C. effort, such as at the monthly meetings and Open Meetings such as at Didcot. As long as the A/V presentation is connected to the C. R. C. through assistance .from Area Leaders and/or members, and presented with C R C in the titles, this should cover you.. Here are some quotes from the I. A. C. Rules....

The I. A. C. license only covers the CLUB productions and NOT those of their individual members. The license authorises the person or CLUB named to record musical works controlled by NCPS, which have been previously released on records or tapes.

For exhibition in private or at Amature Cine Club or Photographic Club premises to friends and relations where admittance is free or on a charge made for Club funds.

For not more than two public performances held annually other than and in addition to the aforementioned clauses 1 & 11.  (11 = bonafide charities fund raising ).

For exhibition at annual amature Cine and photographic festivals attended by competitors and friends.

For exhibition to judges in amature Cine or photographic competitions. Remember. “It is an offence to make a recording of copyright music, even if the recording is not re-produced and an offence to re-recorded or copy any disc or tape recording without the consent of the maker. It is also an offence to play or reproduce copyright material in public without the appropriate permission, which is only given in the form of licenses. The courts have held that any persons, including neighbours and friends outside the immediate family circle are “public”. Whether or not there is an admission charge or the people present are members of a Club is immaterial; a performance to such a gathering is “public”.

If any member of the C R C decide to give presentations of their work outside these guidelines, we suggest you send for the GENERAL rules leaflet Cc4A/73 and a license application form to... Administrative Secretary, Amature - Cinematographers Ltd, 63. Woodfield Lane, Suirrey KT21 2BT.

You can always revert to using OUT OF COPYRIGHT records and tapes as released by some publishers. To be out of copyright means after 50 years of the composer’s/Author’s death. (raking recordings of LIVE performances requires a separate license again.).

To complete this issue may I wish you all a very rewarding season of photography and processing and end with a few reminders. (1) Please do all you can to try and get to the Didcot meeting and make it an even better meeting for all. (2) If you really have decided not to renew your subscription, please let us know, next highest costs to this Newsletter production is postage, So please, reminders are very expensive and time consuming to the Club, your Area Leader would appreciate it very much. (3) Well this is a regular beef from your Editor. Could you please try to find some bits of interesting news and views to send for the next Newsletter, my greatest worry is to reach this stage of production and find the lack of articles to complete the issue. Over the last few months you all must have had some experiences with your hobby that would be of interest to others, so please try to send something in over the coming weeks.

I’m sorry that Brian feels the need to drop out from the Secretary’s position. Without Brian’s backing it would have been impossible for me to have even began thinking about taking on’ the Editor’s job during that eventful last meeting with our previous Editor. However Brian always made it known that he didn’t want the job on a permanent bases and his conclusion has been expected. Therefore his wishes must be respected and if any of you think that you would like to have a go at being Secretary of the Club, please let us know as soon as you can. We will give every assistance.
