My thanks to rayco for
sending me a complementary copy of their latest companion to their long
established 'Book of Formulae'. This is an A5 sided booklet with a very nice
colour front and back cover made on firm card. The pages are fixed together by a
spiral, plastic spine and is easy to ;at flat on your table or bench while
working to the enclosed formulae.
While
it deals mainly with black & white formulae, colour toners etc there is
plenty of interest for CRC members who also include colour negative printing
among their photographic interests. Most of the items have been sent in by
Rayco`s regular customers. An article "Reversing B&W Paper",
gives details, and working formula, on how to save those ` faded`
Ferraniacolor Slides onto B&W paper, in a `reversal` process. That
should keep you busy, in th darkroom, over the long winter nights!
It
was interesting to see a formula for RA4 Developers by our own, Lawrence
Edwards, and thank Rayco for giving the C.R.C. a mention in their pages.
You
may find the article on Contrast Control and Restoring Old Photos worth
trying, The example prints showing the original `faded` postcard, then the
new print shows considerable improvement in contrast and the depth of detail
returned to the picture. The procedure used was on 100asa film and copying
using two photoflood lamps with the print developed at grade three on
multigrade paper.
This
is a well written and presented companion to Rayco`s Formula Book and has
something to interest everyone who spends a lot of time in their darkroom
and will enlighten you to numerous fresh ideas, or may possibly help you
improve on the present system and working formulae that you use at present.
