AREA 3/15 NEWS

Area Co-ordinator, Roy Salmons continues to give an excellent service to his `extended` membership, since taking on the late Bert Sanders`group. His use of colour from his computer and printer keeps getting better and better. His main article is on how to make Handwritten and Stencilled slide titles. This is an on-going article which will, surely, appear in these pages at a later date.

A number of his members have replied to his request for communications on their latest activities and interests. E.G.

Norman Davies asks for anyone knowing a formula for Kodak`s latest Colour Reversal paper or is the Photocolour Chrome Kit suitable. Is there any formulae for W&M? Is there a simple RA4 formula and what is the difference between `glycerin` and `Glycerine? John Salter is experimenting with Slide Duplicating producing duplicates from his favourite film, Konicachrome. Any advice!

Mike Puttick says he would like to see more articles in the CRCN on AV progressing from one projector to two or more along with hints and tips. How about it, AV users?

Ian Little, LRPS, explains his pride on having one slide and print accepted in the Nature section of the Southport Open Exhibition. He has also had success in the RPS Nature Group Open Exhibition with three prints - two overall, a Highly Commended and a Commended. He also had a couple of slides accepted which are going around various Clubs. Roy says that if he can have a couple of prints he will reproduce them in his next local news, for all Area 3/15 members to enjoy. This is what I would like to see happen in the CRCN, if we had the necessary equipment. Our laser printer should easily handle B&W prints, but colour would require a scanner and colour printer.

Noel Dean is Roy`s main contact on his venture into Digital Photography and colour printing and is planning to send an article on this subject when time allows.

Elwyn Davies sent Roy a 127 size roll of Dufaycolor slide film. It was `only` 48 years out of date, but Roy had a go at processing it... sadly it  was a total failure. However sticking to 127 size film Roy also produced an interesting article telling of a German contact for a D-I-Y 127 machine! This film went off the market some while, albeit, a rather expensive, foreign source is still available, but with the thought of many photographers possibly having perfectly good cameras gathering dust, this machine could get you up and running again by being able to cut down from a 120 size roll film.

I don`t wish to produce Roy`s full article here so if you are interested give Roy a ring and he will be pleased to give you the full information. Again, using his digital printing, he has produced a very fine colour image of this machine. As indeed, he has also done on the reverse side of this article of a superb B&W picture of a model steam loco, if printed on a higher resolution printer would be a full quality B&W print.
