AREA NEWS

NEW AREA LEADER Area 20.
After many years of hard work on behalf of the Club, Oliver Barron has retired as Leader of Area 20. He has for many years produced an area newsletter containing a tremendous amount of technical information for the area members. In addition, he also organised regular meetings at Uxbridge library for the locals. This had continued whilst enough enthusiastic members lived within travelling distance of the meeting place. Oliver was awarded life membership of the club in 1987 for his outstanding services to the club since its inception.

PROCESSING NOTES George Sparkes - Area 22.
I finally got round to processing three films in December, well two and a half actually, using the old trick of marking the cutting position on the half used film with a piece of sellotape introduced through the lens mount onto the emulsion with the shutter open.

I had been wondering how one of my films would turn out as the end cap came off the cassette in November as I was about to load it into the camera. I replaced the cap as quickly as possible and fortunately I was in the car and in the shade at the time. I found that only the first 13 frames out of the 36 were wholly or partly fogged.

HOLIDAY LOSS
Time moves fast but beaurocrats move slow. We have a last heard from the Consulate at Bordeaux, although it took them six months to respond to our letter and this only after the intervention of the Passport Office at Peterborough.

Not surprisingly, they have not recovered any of the camera bodies or lenses. What they do have, int heir own words are:- Une sachoche content divers lentilles et filtres pour appareil photographique; Un photographies utilisses. These we believe are a bag of filters, an exposure meter and seven cassettes of film.

FAMILY MEMBERSHIP
We recently had a query about family membership. This is still available at a cost of only £5 i.e. just an additional £1 over individual membership fee.

NEW FOLIO SECRETARY
Another recent change of office is that Frank White,of Area 13 is to be the new slide folio secretary. Ron and I have been dealing with this task for the club as a whole. It has been an enjoyable task and has given us a great opportunity to take a look at other people`s slides in the comfort of our own home. We found however, that we could not properly cope with this as well as selling film and chemicals and writing articles for the CRC Newsletter. Our thanks go to Frank for taking his on.

NEW PROCESS
Following the publication of the new E6 formula in the handbook supplement, orders have been coming in thick and fast for the chemicals. An amazing 10% of the Club`s members have already bought chemicals to try the formula. Three members have written to Ron to say that excellent results they have achieved between them with Konica, Fuji, 3M and Ektachrome.

FREE FILM
The best article in the last newsletter was adjudged to be the Build Your Own Temperature Unit by J. Sugden of Area 9. Mr. Sugden is the recipient of a free cassette of 3M film.

POSTING CHEMICALS
Ron has certainly been very busy of late in weighing up and packing chemicals in response to your orders. I would think that you must have received a very prompt response from him as he usually manages to get the chemicals sent off by return post. However, getting these articles to Ireland is quite a different matter as the customs men are naturally cautious about letting such substances into the country.

John Wilson of Co. Dublin has arranged to receive his goods by personal courier. Ron posted his chemicals to an address in Scotland. There they were picked up by John Wilson`s son, over here for the international rugby match, and transported
back to Ireland by hand together with a `certificate of authenticity` and presumably some persuasive talking, where necessary.
