EDITORIAL

We must thank Roy Salmons for the continuing brilliant colour printing of our CRC News. Along with this he produces an equally colourful Area 3+ local newsletter, but Roy has also kindly produced some excellent ‘large’ prints for a number of members, from slides they have sent in. These are all on digital printing and proves how good this is getting. However in spite of his great efforts WE are still struggling to find copy for the CRCN and really do need to hear from you. The new printing must open the door for most of you to send in articles on a ‘theme’ basis that you can dig out of your slide collection. There is no time limit on articles and the older the better. Let us see some of your great‘ failures’ too. Or how you have improved a poor slide, either in the camera or by digital, the end result will be the same. Your Newsletter is crying out for your help.

I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to arrange the Didcot Autumn Meetings as hoped. We shall have to try and make it a Spring meeting possible including an AGM.

Lots of great colour slides in this issue, thanks to Roy Salmons. Brian Asquith, Eric Deeming and a selection from the latest CRC Slide Folio. This really does demonstrate your colour work to considerable advantage and makes the articles come to life.

Brian shares two very contrasting slides taken in Namibia and Iceland, while his latest article explains what you can do with your ‘mountain’ of slides and start editing them down to form a more interesting AV, or general, presentation. You really do need to be ferocious in your selection and editing out of slides. Eric and his brother, Dave are very active in their photography and, in particular, enjoy capturing motor cycling events, with their fast pace and difficult framing. In his article Eric also demonstrates how to set up a story board.

There are two articles to help you understand consider taking more interest in digital photograph. D. I. is moving in leaps and bounds and while dedicated film users can still tell when a photo printed digitally or on photographic paper, Dig punting is now very, very close, even with prints to A3 size. Smaller and cheaper digital cameras still very much a compromise, albeit, a very  convenient alternative to your humble little ‘snapshot’ film camera. However them is still a lot of magic when slides are projected onto a large screen and a very professional AV presentation is give. I have a great deal of my slides converted to digital you really can’t beat seeing them projected as they were meant to be.

There is still a lot of activity amongst C.R members, as regards taking pictures and process but we really do need to make more contact with each other and share our experiences through these pages. Perhaps over the winter ‘lull’ you will consider putting pen to paper, or attack the computer  keyboard, and send me some articles and slides help fill the pages.
