HERE we are, into 2004. Each year seems to fly past even faster than the last one and it hardly seems five minutes since the Millenium had started. Whatever, I trust that you all have had a good time over the Festive Season and that 2004 will bring you all the things that you wish for, but mostly that it is a year of good health and happy outings with your camera and successful processing.
The Summer of 2003, for the most part, was a very dry and sunny period, with lots of opportunities for getting the camera clicking. The CRCN pages are crying out to hear of your adventures and Roy’s great printing work will display your photographs to excellent quality. Please give your Editor a little thought at this time as it really does get more and more difficult to find interesting copy to fill these pages. A few of you sending in a set of slides with a story line would help to make my job a lot easier and express more of the members’ work than is possible at the moment.
Inside this issue, along with the Secretary’s comments and the regular good sense from Brian Asquith’s page, we have an interesting exchange by members Dennis O’Connor and Bill Broadhurst on finding their common interest in the operation of a Mamiya 300 camera. The centre pages display another excellent example from the latest CRC Postal Slide Folio. Dave and Eric Deeming are doing an excellent job in continuing Glyn Willicombe’s good work.
While I continue to use film and processing for my main photography, back in late Summer I got myself a Fujifilm FinePix digital camera and used this for some fill-in photography and on pages 6 & 7 you can see some of the results. The camera uses up to 2Mb (with added Fuji FinePix pixel enhancement), but for general use I have stuck with 1Mb plus FinePix enhancement, which I think you will agree is acceptable for general use. If I wish to take a photo that would look great at 8” x 10” or larger then the full 2Mb plus FinePix enhancement would do the job. Digital is excellent for those times when you don’t have time for home processing.
We conclude with a quite extensive article from Roy Salmons on ‘Making a Start with Audio Visual’, which should give a spur to those who have been hesitating to take up this side of our hobby and encourage you to give it a try. |
