EDITORIAL In
response to a letter from a Sussex member asking about possible National
Slide Competitions now that we have the competition rules ironed out and
especially too after last years very successful competition run by Roy
Salmons Of Photoworld. I have sent a letter to all Area Leaders and
Committee members to find out their views on this and, also to get YOU the
members to show us just how much interest in any competition that could be
arranged. The
sad. point of the Photoworld competition was in the too few members who took
part out of the total membership of the Club. However Roy pointed out tee
excellent work that we can produce and stand up to anything other club’s
and Societies may come up with and that we deserve a wider coverage...: However
in spite of Roy’s efforts he sadly lost out expense wise as he was solely
involved in the running of the competition and prizes A competition on this
scale requires a lot of work and I feel. that we should have a properly
organised Competition Secretary and ~ Committee to see the whole procedure
carried out with member s slides looked after and returned safely, judges
appointed and prizes’ awarded with any following competition being fully
organised in advance.. ‘ We
have some excellent people looking after the various ‘officers’ of the
Club and they already put in a lot of time in these activities. It would be nice to see some ‘New Blood’ and find people who would look
after and run any 11ational Competitions with dedication, The
Club’s good name will be ‘on the block’. You
will be hearing from your Area Leader on this when you receive your
Newsletter and I urge you to respond so that we will all know the extent of
interest and especially too if YOU think you would like to be part of a
Committee set up to Run the Competitions. It
has been suggested we find various sponsors and have a C.R.C. Trophy as the
top prize. It all costs money and organising with the full backing of
members to send in their work. Please write to your Area Leader or to me and
let us know what’ you think. It
takes time to organise a competition on this scale and we will need to get
all the people involved to gather before anything can get off the ground. As one who gained some excellent prizes from the Photoworid Competition and the nice surprise of knowing my work has progresses so well, it would be nice to see another competition going and all of you getting a chance to prove your photography as well as your home processing achievements I also had the pleasure of having a slide accepted in the 10th International Colour Slide exhibition by the Welsh photographic Federation last year and enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing my name listed among photographers from all over the world. So why don’t you give consideration to putting your work on show in a National Competition and assist in getting another C R C. one going’. |
