SECRETARY'S NOTES

Where have all the young ones gone” we know it as a song, but I am thinking more of our club. When I
look around at the age of my colleagues on the committee and our Area  leaders then with a few except1ons we are a venerable lot It is good that we are wearing well and still keen to do our bit, but what worries me is that we are going to need someone to take over the reigns one day and we are going to need younger members to do that.  So how about a big effort to get in some new blood. The committee recently approved of a combined husband/wife membership fee of £5 so why not get your wile to join us and enter her work of art in the folios and other competitions we have.

There are some very nice compact cameras on the market at the moment. Some are apt to look on them as being tools for the more scatterbrained among us, while others think: they take the chores out of the hobby. Whichever way we look at it, they are very sophisticated instrument with auto focus, wind on, re-wind, exposure and flash there is not much to think about. One of my friends found a snag with his. After not quite inserting the film correctly nothing worked and he was convinced the camera needed repair The other snag is of course if the batteries are flat they are not much good.

When browsing through the photographic magazines it seems that that there are a lot of bargains about in lenses at the moment The progress made in computer designed optics - produced zoom lenses with a range in the focal length of 28 to 200mm, and while no one expects them to be superior to fixed focal length models, they are certainly good. enough for most peoples needs. Who would have thought: that you could buy one lens for around £150 that would do the work of six lenses. The lens makers are having a hard time getting rid, of 28mm and 135mm lenses and there are a lot of bargains around in the shops at the moment.

Best Wishes for lots of good slides in the Autumn.

Ron Croad.
