One again the season has been a very slow
one in regards communications. It would seem that the long hot days have
dulled the senses, or you have all been too busy getting lovely colourful
shots in the can, and processing, that its left little time for letter
writing.
Due to circumstances I have done little photography &
processing this season. Last time I mentioned that I got that `tobacco` effect
once again, but that time the test strip was O.K! Well! I got the same again
during my first session of the season, and as I didn`t wish to spoil all
the films waiting to be processed, I waited until I sorted things out a bit.
I bought some more fresh chemicals to replace those I suspected, but on doing
the next processing, the test strip, again, looked fine, as did the first
two films, but the 3rd & 4th definitely showed the `effect` still there!.
I had even made up a fresh reversal bath the day before as the one made up
had gone into it`s sixth week.
Now that the chemicals cannot be suspected, and I feel that
my weighing & mixing is OK and the effect is very much as you might get
should you be doing `solarisation` I am starting to suspect the problem may
be one of `light-leakage`. It can`t be during re-loading from bulk rolls
as the problem is also in bought cassettes, therefore the logical suspect
would be during the period films are in the developing tank for the `dry`
pre-heat before starting processing. It will be expensive having to buy a
new tank just to find the source of this problem. I have had the `double`
Paterson System 4 tank for some years and haven`t suspected it so far, but
the "Pink Pig" has raised my suspicions now that I feel there is no problem
with my weighing & mixing etc. I shall keep you informed of my
progress.
I would like to thank those who took heed of my request
and sent in some copy. I can assure you that it was most welcome and made
the difference in this issue being as full as normal. However all of that
copy has been used and the need for you to keep sending in whatever you can
will be appreciated.
The cartoon on page 4 proves how well our printing format
handles these kind of sketches. If you can come up with something similar
I am sure it will add the the pleasure you get from the Newsletter.
The article on page 3 appears by the kindness of John Ruffell
who is the editor of Amateur Film Maker. We thank John for this and further
copy will appear in future issues. |
