SECRETARY'S NOTES

A Happy New 2003 to one and all. May all your slides be masterpieces.

While thinking of masterpieces, I wonder if Glyn Willicombe has submitted his slide “Thatcher” to a magazine such as Country Life — see it on page 8. It is the right format, the subject matter is of special interest to that type of publication, and there is room for the magazine’s title at the top. A pretty safe bet for a cover picture I’d say. Which is a good link to me asking for one of your pictures for the Spring cover of our own modest journal. Upright format if possible with a good “springy” feel about it. There are the usual regulars who, without hesitation, help out when I’m stuck for a cover picture (which is every issue!), but what about some fresh names appearing. We all belong to the CRC because we have an interest in photography, and presumably take or have taken pictures in the course of practising our hobby. So dig out those pics.

Our intrepid editor, Bill Reid, has the same bother with articles for the CRC News. You may not have discovered some new wonder brew, but I would lay a pound to a penny that every member could sort out a few slides on the same theme, jot down some information about them — film type, process used (or who did the necessary if trade processed), and other technical information if remembered, where and when the pictures were taken. Your work is important to other members, so flaunt it!

Moving on to May. Things move at a fairly slow pace in this neck of the woods, so I am still not able to confirm whether there will definitely be an ‘Extravaganza Weekend’ for visitors to point their cameras at. But I do have the dates, if there is! May 3rd., 4th., and 5th (which is a Bank Holiday).

When I am able to catch up with the gentleman in charge of the Community Centre bookings I will endeavour to book a black-outable room and the kitchen so that our AGM can be held on the Sunday (4th. May). So watch this space, as they say. Meanwhile if you could pencil in those dates in your Diary, and keep your fingers crossed.... There are plenty of guest houses and hotels in the town, so if members want to enjoy the weekend and attend the AGM as well, there should be no problem regarding where to stay.

I’ll be nagging various individuals into doing something sensational if all goes according to plan.

There are a number of members who have expressed an interest in submitting work for possible selection in the 2003 East Antrim Open Exhibition. David Lewis has now sent me some entry forms, from which I note that the entry fee has risen very slightly to £2 per section (colour or b/w). I don’t have enough to send out to every member, but please contact your Area Co-ordinator for a copy if you intend to enter. I would ask Area Co-ordinators~ to return completed forms to me a.s.a.p. so that the Committee knows how many £2 fees we will be paying. Arrangements can then be made to send the mounted prints in one insured parcel (safety in numbers).

I seem to have rambled on at great length this time, so I’d better come to a close or you’ll get no photography done this side of Easter!

Keep in touch.
