SECRETARY' S NOTES

JOHN PEARLE, 1 ELDON CLOSE COLCHESTER ESSEX CO4 3HA 01206 861604 thepearles@compuserve.com

NOTES ? WHAT NOTES ? OH....THOSE NOTES...
Bill Reid has caught me off guard. It's early August and already he's putting the finishing touches to the Autumn issue of the News. We're in the middle of planning the CRC stand for the Photo Action 99 show in Birmingham at the end of October. Sounds easy, but there's a lot to do. I'm coming to appreciate the effort put in by Pete Guy, Bill Reid, Brian Savage, Arthur Comer, Alan Edwards and all the others who helped with the CRC stand last year. By the time you read this the show will probably be over and I daresay that we will be going over the various happenings and laying plans for next year. We will be on Stand A18 in Hall 1. It's a good ten years since I was last at the NEC so I for one am looking forward
to the experience.

THE CRC - THE FUTURE
I've had several letters from people with ideas on the future direction of the Club. We held a Committee meeting recently at Didcot to consider what you had said. Whilst there is a clear trend in the comments you've made so far, considering the number CRC members who had not yet offered their comments, we decided to send a questionnaire out to you all. We will also use this to get an idea of the various photographic interests the Club should cater for. The draft Minutes of this meeting are with Area Co-ordinators, together with the supporting notes. If you want all the gory details - ask your Area Co-ordinator.

Several letters suggested new items for the News - all good ideas - I will be passing these on to Hon. Editor so they will appear in due course. They will need support from yourselves if they are to be useful, so watch future issues.

THE 1999 AGM
The formal 1999 AGM Report, in the form of the Minutes, is in this issue. I'm sorry it's an issue late, we'll do better next time.

* * * *

At the end of the last Notes, I said the weather was great, it was when I wrote them, it took longer than planned to get the last News out, and the weather turned foul in the meantime. That's how it is as I write this. There are still pictures to be had, it takes more determination though. Look at a damp tree trunk, there are shades and patterns there that you don't see when its dry. There are whole landscapes in the sky - pity you need to make a hole in the umbrella to poke the lens through.....then you need a small umbrella to keep the rain off the lens....with a hole in it....
