SECRETARY'S NOTES

The Didcot meeting was very successful with a reasonable turn out despite severe thunder storms in the morning. It was most enjoyable to meet old friends again and make some new ones amongst the new faces. Bill Reid writes a fuller report in this issue  (page 11 & 12), but I should like to thank him and his helpers for all the work they put in both beforehand and during and after the event.

Although. I regret to report that I have not had any enquiries for the jobs of Secretary and Puib1icity Officer, I have had some correspondence. Some of you want more technical information, formulae etc, and some less. Which suggests that for the majority Bill manages to get the balance between the two.

Reports on 1000 ASA 3M film have so far been very disappointing, whereas some have been impressed with the new Ektachrome P800/1600, pointing out that the blacks are really dense even with up-rating. One writer has said this may be a slight disadvantage because sometimes you want the background in night shots not to be all that black.

I have also received a long and interesting letter from an Area One senior citizen member who is still actively interested in photography making his own colour prints from slides etc. Not bad for someone in his eighties - an example to us all. Keep mind and body active.

Do remember Bill relies on you for material for this newsletter - keep the notes, letters and articles coming in.

Bob Lewis, Leader of Area 9 and others have discovered a change in the film supplied by Barfen as CRX100. It now seems certain that the new film resembles Konicachrome in all it’s characteristics rather than Fujichrome as was formly the case. However for those primly attached to the older type of film supplied, real Fujichrome is available in bulk from some suppliers (e.g. Jessops of Leicester) and the extra cost is not too much.

During the next couple of months would members who are interested please let me know how they feel about the rules for slide competitions held with the Club and send me their version of what they think they should be.

I thank all of those who have already renewed their subscriptions, which became due on the 1st of April. If you haven’t paid yours may I remind you to do so now while you are thinking about, it? It’s the same old £3.50 - not much is it?

Wishing you all a great Summer and a good holiday and successful photography.

Brian Savage.
