SECRETARY'S NOTES

Having Just returned from the Executive Committee meeting at Worcester, I am full of enthusiasm for the Colour Reversal Club. There were ten committee members present and they were all very keen to see the club expand a bit. while it is not wise to try 1 get a lot more members who have little interest, there must be a large number of persons who would like to try our hobby and who I the sort of hope that we can provide.

This theory was borne out when the Club recently had a spate of enquiries after a brief mention in Camera Weekly. The publicity leaflets are also beginning to have effect. Bob Lewis, the Membership Secretary,. has. had quite a few enquiries recently.

It is confusing to read some of the camera magazines the days. Each copy: bring news of some new innovation that we, the camera users are supposed to want. The trouble is that the Japanese manufacturers are trying to outdo their rivals so much that many innovations arrive before their predecessors have been in use for very long. There are new cameras with six exposure mode when two are what most people use. They may also have auto focus, auto flashgun, auto wind, etc. While these can make the photographer’s task easier, they are not essential.

To me it all seems irrelevant whether a camera has these features. A camera is simply a means of: recording an image on ti film. It takes a bit more effort with a manually operated camera, but it will still produce good results. A more important is see in and composing an exposure. No amount of automation can do  that photographer can decide whether to spend more money on camera equipment or more on, film. If one photographer carries his came everywhere and exposes a lot of film, while another uses only 3 - 4. films a year in his automated camera, then the first photograph will surely turn out more consistent and good quality work.

So keep: the film running. through your cameras in l987.

Regards

Ron.
