STORM WARNING
The last few weeks have seen some of the most vicious thunderstorms in many a year. Not only for the spectacular and numerous flashes but whereas past storms have always been a little in the distance and not consider much of a threat, these recent ones have been right above us.
I thought it was just bad luck on my part when the last one not only fried my telephone but also my almost brand new computer "Modem". Luckily I got the phone to work but the Answer phone section has completely burned out. While I can wait a bit for a new phone, being on the Internet has been a great boon and will cost a good £60 for a replacement modem.
I was also surprised to learn that our new Secretary, John Pearle, not only lost his modem but also suffered a badly damaged printer.
There is no come back from BT and claiming on your household insurance will only cost more in the long term. So while I had unplugged most of the electric sockets around the house, it was an expensive omission forgetting about the telephone line. So YOU will know what do next time, Won't you?
I don't know how long either of us will be "off Air" but I will e-mail all my regular contacts as soon as I have a new modem up and running. But for the meantime its back to "Slow Mail" -- A bit like going back to the horse and cart after having used "Concord" ....
