EDITORIAL
That this has been an eventual quarter is
to put it mildly! As most of you will have suspected, the Club came close
to being closed down. This was due to The present Secretary, Pete Guy resigning
and also not knowing if we would have a Treasurer and other Committee members
to run the business. Thankfully, not only did Sandra Craske stay in Office
but John Pearle kindly took over as Secretary. A full list of Officials is
published on page 5. My apologies for typing the wrong name of our new Chairman
in the previous Co-ordinator's Additional. Nick Williams of Gloucester is
in this position.
I can't leave this subject without offering my gratitude
to Pete Guy for the marvellous work he has put in on "Your" behalf. Many
thanks Pete and I hope that you continue to enjoy your membership and new
position as Committee member. I hope members will support John Pearle in
his new role. My thanks too to everyone who made it possible for the Club
to continue.
There are still threats to the Club. Mainly 'apathagy',
stemming from the encroachment of Digital Imaging. However it would be a
mistake to think interest and the continuation of home processing and the
film to go with it, is going to go away that easy! Film still holds the ground
on "Quality" when compared to DI, never mind the cost of getting set up for
this new technology. As John proves, on page 15, there are still 'projects'
that can be tackled using film, paper and chemicals. Its a pity we can't
show examples in these pages, but the Silver Image Prints system doesn't
lend itself to this. But anyone giving this process a try will be pleasantly
surprised and kept busy in the darkroom producing these impressive prints.
My timely warning (page 7) proves the need to be vigilant
during bad thunder & Lightening storms, and to remove electric plugs
from wall sockets. As you will read, this omission proved an expensive
experience.
To conclude, another reminder that an OPEN
MEETING is booked for SUNDAY 17th of OCTOBER, at the Railway Staff Club in
Station Road, Didcot, South Oxfordshire. The Club is appx. 200 yards from
the station. Ample car parking is available. A cold buffet, tea & Coffee
will be available.
The days events rely totally on what members bring with
them. Slides, prints and any equipment for sale or exhibit will be most welcome.
The Club opens at 12.00. The bar will be available throughout the day. The
meeting will close at appx. 18.00. Please try to come along and support your
club and officials.
