AREA ROUND-UP

AREA 4 (Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham and Cleveland)
Nice to hear from Area Leader, Peter Calvert. First to report a chang
e of address. Peter has moved from Newby, Middlesburgh to a smaller farm at Romanby, Northailerton. Quite a hectic time too according to Peter, plus he has to commute about 25 miles to their meetings. But worth it comments Peter.

The Area AGM was held in Nay with 9 members in attendance. Sadly they have lost their only lady member  who is no longer able to drive her car, and their youngest member who relied on her to get to the meetings.

Area 4 is affiliated to the Nth. Yorks & 5th. Durham Photographic Alliance which consists of about 3O photo clubs in the area. They have a member delegated to attend their. meetings’ and it is hoped that he may attract some new members Peter says he cant. understand the young ones not seeming to be very interested. However we would like to thank Peter for his continued efforts and wish Area a successful season.

AREA 9. (West Midlands. Shropshire. Northamptonshire. & Warwickshire)
Another Leadership hand over has been smoothly smoothly transacted when the Reverend Anthony Green took over from Bob Lewis Our thanks to Bob for having been a most interesting Leader with excellent technical and practical back up to his members and having produced some fine local newsletters who’s articles regularly find their
way into the National Newsletter. Bob of course, continues as Membership Secretary.

A most warm welcome to Anthony Green who. has just retired from his church office which has also resulted in a move of home. Anthony has produced his first local newsletter and proves that he will continue the good work that Bob performed and the local newsletter continues ‘to be produced on a computer printer which is an ideal medium for this work. Members will be well served and ‘we hope that they will give him their support in keeping in touch and sending in those excellent articles which the Area has such a flair for. Our best wishes go to Anthony.

AREA 15 (South Wales). . .. . Report by Bert Sanders.
The fortunes of Area 15 over the last two years has been rather unsettled to say the least. Things started to go.wrong when the E6 process was introduced and the E4 process and compatible film was phased out.

There is no doubt that it had been Kodak’s policy to channel all photo processing into the laboratories. Kodak dominates the world at the present moment and if it had not been for the persistence of members of camera clubs and photographic
societies all over Britain they would have certainly achieved their objective.

It is with thanks to members of the Colour Reversal Club that the E6 process has now firmly established itself in the kitcben sink and a good working formulae has now been produced which will process a few makes of film. There  is still quite a bit of work to be done arid it is only a matter of time before we will be able to process all available Colour Reversal film with ease.

Seven years. ago .Area 15 had over fifty members; we are down to seven paid up members. I am glad to say that among those members are four new. ones who are Colour Reversal buffs who owe their allegiance to no other than the C R C. I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that we will see many more new faces at our rneetings.

A few of Area 15 members transferred to Area 14 They did not give their reasons but I am sure it is because they live nearer Brian Savage, Leader of Area 14 than they do’ to~ Swansea which is the centre of operations ‘for Area 15. Owing to the ‘fact that membership is so low in Area 15 the committee has been dispensed with and all operations and meetings are once again controlled by Yours Truly, the Area Leader.

May was the last meeting before we broke up for the Summer recess. We start again on Thursday September 10th with a film show by one, of our new members; a few A/V shows will follow on succeeding meeting. Owing to the drastic drop in membership our monthly competitions, as well as the Will Griffiths Memorial Trophy, have had to be suspended. We hope that with out new formulae and the success of  Chrome Six commercial kits we will soon have members bending over the kitchen sink again.

At the moment we are experiencing somewhat of ‘a struggle to keep going’ and to pay for our excellent venue. It would be a tragedy if we had to give up owing to lack of finance. Anyway, we wont give up without fight and are at present looking forward to better things in the future.

AREA 16/17/18 (Devon. Cornwall Somerset Hampshire I 0 Wight & Channel Islands)
As reported previously, Areas 16 &17 were armalgamated into South Western Counties under the leadership of Eric Clark As there was no response to our request for a replacement Leader for Bill Wilson, he and Eric decided to amalgamate Area 18 into the new group as from the 1st of April 87 We would like to give our thanks to Bill for his leadership over the past years and that he will continue to enjoy his membership from the back benches The Area funds have been handed over to Eric.

Eric has been a most able Leader arid now with the added membership.will find himself with a reasonable increased number of members in which to share his activities and I am sure most will appreciate his very interesting local newsletters, which will help fill the gap between the National ones.

Regreting that he was unable to get to Didcot. Eric sent a number of questions to fire at Konica’ s agent, John ‘Davies. Eric reports that he has two new members, or indeed, two old members re-join.’ They are Gerry Albinson  & Lea Bovey of Bristol who were in the Bristol Area of ‘the CR50 Club. They have been involved in forming a new local camera club and having heard of the C.R.C. through the Rayco leaflets, decided to join Welcome back gentlemen. Lea has a caravan not far from Eric and managed to call in for a visit while on holiday.

Eric has also sent a report on a Photo Show which took place at the Barnstable Motel on the 26th of April. He had prepared an 8” x 10” notice for the C.R.C. to display along with some membership forms. They got a bit lost among much larger ones, but later noticed that several had been taken away, we hope by some, prospective members.

All the big names of the photo trade were represented and there was also a stand which offered camera and lens testing. There was Video and professional models in a complete lighting set-up with models available for 15 minutes every hour. Newspaper clippings of the event sent by- Eric certainly looked very impressive.

Members of the newly formed group will find Eric most willing to help wherever possible and I am sure that he will be most interested to hear from you Please keep him informed of your interests and help make his local newsletters even.

AREA 19 (Sussex and Outer Surrey)
Leader, Reg Long gives the sad news that he has lost his Area Treasurer, Arthur Riddles who died from a heart attack earlier this year. Having know Arthur for a good 30 years and more, Reg will miss, him very much0 Member Barry Martin has kindly offered to take on the treasurer’ a job and will be sworn in at the next area meeting in Pulborough..

The report in their local newsletter deals with building your own darkroom shed in the garden. Bob Fry who is in his 8o's has recently bought a 4ft x 5ft, shed, and lined it out for dark proofing He has built darkrooms at his previous abodes and obviously keeps himself active.

Reg’s own darkroom is 8ft x 6ft with pent roof design. Fully lined out with a bench and extractor fan and earthed electricity supply from his garage with a small switch control panal with a voltmeter and voltage stabiliser, After 14 years it is still very lightproof and he has added comfort by putting lino on the floor and felt floor tiles.

AREA 20 (Nth & Wst. London. Buckinghamshire. Oxfordshire and Berkshire)
Congratulations to Leader. Oliver Barron on getting Life Membership. A most just award to one of our most dedicated stalwarts Paving been with the Club since its founding he has held many positions. His services as Club Chemical Supplier has been one of our mainstays, allowing members to buy just the amount they require rather than the bu1k buying most dealers ask for. He also rnakes up ‘Ready Mix of Bleach and Fixer for less than 50p per litre. His local newsletter has just reached No.107, having kept up a regular abundance of topical coverage. The Area also has the only slide Folio going and though has just lost three of its long standing folio members has also hope of gaining four new ones. Our best wishes go with Oliver.
