HERE AND THERE

By Ron Knowles

Call it the ravages of advancing years : or a sudden rush of blood to the old cranium : or whatever, But whatever it was I made a right ‘pigs ear when giving the two-bath Blix formula in the issue for April. In the SOLUTION 'A' the first chemical should be EDTA (the free acid) and not the EDTA Na4 which I gave the amount of 20gms is correct. In the SOLUTION ‘B’ the chemical should be Sodium THIOCYANATE ... and not Sodium THIOSTJLPHATE given as the second ingredient. Again the amount 5Ogms is correct. Further I should point out that the formula should be credited to Brian Wheatcroft though it did come to me from Bob Fry of Area 19.

I apologise for the errors arid am grateful to several members who pointed out the mistakes to me. 1~hat a blessing we have such eagle-eyed chaps in the Club. And how gratifying to know that there are some who read the Newsletter so avidly.

CONGRATULATIONS. Although I have had no notification at the time of’ writing this. I did have a Pidgon fly in from down Worcester way and despite this somewhat medieval method of distribution of news, I gather that Oliver Barron, Leader of Area 20, has been honored with a Life Membership of’ the C.R.C. No doubt there will be further mention of this elsewhere in this issue but as Oliver and I have been corresponding for some years I felt that a mention in this column would be in order. So will sincerely say here a very sincere CONGRATULATIONS OLIVER.

ILFORD TURN TO AGFA No doubt most of you will have read in the photographic press that Iford film at least the colour variety .. will in future be from the Agfa stable and not, as hitherto, from the Japanese company of Konica, Presumably this will be of the conventional E6 processing so there should not be any great difficulty to any of us either from the chap who prefers to buy his chemicals in kit form or the weigher and mixer.

Actually I had 'wind' of this change some weeks before the photo magazine but was unable to let you, know about it becatse of the long three month gap between publication of our newsletters. But then I’ve learned that one cannot have everything as one would like it in this world.

DESPITE THE DREADFUL WINTER. Have you noticed what delights the multi-coloured flowering shrubs have provided this ring? All this in spite or could it be in defiance of the ‘dreadfully long, cold and wind swept winter which has kept most of us shivering for months on end, Of course most of this spring canvas will have disappeared when this finally reaches you. But its memory will, hopefully linger on. For myself I did find a most delightful display of magnolia and the pink cherry tree — both within nodding distance which I couldn't resist photographing and so I have a permanent record f a spring which, in a way, rather make up for the dreary winter.

AND SO GOODBY. To use the old ‘cliche1 ,, due to circumstances beyond my control. I regretfully have to make this my final contribution at least on a regular basis so I fear that this is my last Here & There columns May I thank all those people who have helped with copy and suggestions and, particularly the Area Leaders-who have included me on’ their mailing ‘liSt.

I really am most grateful and say goodbye with regret.
