OPEN MEETING REPORT

In spite of some nasty weather the meeting got off to a good start with 32 members and friends. It was disappointing that some who intended to come didn’t turn up, especially Bill Crumplin with his 3-D show, This was due to a delay in getting some spare parts for his projectors and even after 5 weeks he still doesn't have them. Bill apologises for the disappointment and hopes to be able to come to the next meeting with much improved viewing from his wide screen system.

After being welcomed by our Secretary Brian Savage the programme got off to a flying start with an A/V show from Bert Saunders and Jim Garrett of Area 15. Titled “Land of Song” it combined some very pleasant music with various scenes of the Welsh landscape.. Very short and sweet and leaving you wanting more. Congratulations to Bert on becoming Area 15 Leader, in fact for the second time as he took over from the late Will Griffiths. .And, of course our thanks to Bill Dudley for his stint as Area Leader and thanks too to Bert and Jim for coming all the way from Swansea.

The second series of A/V was from Dr. Neill of Barnsley. The first being a visual report of a visit to the famous. ‘Fotokina’ in Cologne. An amusing item titled ‘Lumps And Bumps” not only emphasized the curves of pretty models but some excel1ent candid shots of the varying ‘lumps & bumps of the man and woman in the street. I particularly liked the programme of slides around Scotland with some real foot-tapping music. The final sequence was a look around France which all together made a very fine show in spite of a false start which cant be helped at times, what with the combination of equipment used to put on a good A/V show.

During the interval when some light refreshments were available in the very pleasant new extension to the Staff Club hall, members were able to view the excellent Cibachrome prints from Margary Meadows of her African Safari. We would like to congratulate Margary on acheiving the Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society (PEPS) which I’m sure members viewing her prints will agree is very well deserved. We would like to thank the Secretary of the Didcot Camera Club Alan Panes for the loan of their print stand, which allowed Margary’s prints to be nicely displayed.

Also on show were two tempering units. The UNO electronic heater & thermostat and Bob Lewis’s home made unit, which is now so finely refined it looks very professional. This includes a tank or drum roller which can be used for slides or prints.

After the interval the second half of the afternoon began with one Of my own Standard 8mm home processed films taken in 1972 on a train trip from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. The first part of the journey was taken from the train and the second part from the driving cab of the locomotive. The film used was Ferrania Colour MC25 and processed in a Russian Double tank with 3M CR50 kits. The film is 16mm double run and after processing is split into two 25ft 8141 lengths and joined for projection.

This was followed by some 80 odd slides from Ron Croad of Area 20. These were excellent Barfen CRX100 slides processed in an Arnold Moorhouse formula with some modifications by Ron Croad of Area 20. I have corrected Ron’s formula and times for these modifications. (Area 20 members please note these changes from Ron’s article in your local Newsletter by Oliver).

Next George Sparkes, Area 22 Leader presented some more of his ‘Titles’ by computer. George has to be congratulated for his fine work in this theme and particularly in his latest graphic work, which must mean some very difficult programming with some nice relief work or 3-D effects. These title slides add some really smart presentation to any slide programme and lead the viewer well into the subject to follow.

Eric Weatherill, Area 11 Leader followed: this with some Konicachrome pushed to 200 ASA of a school visit to the Isle Of Wight. The children certainly reacted well for
