OLIVER BARRON
(1902-1994)
It
is our sad duty to inform you, that one of the Club`s founder members, Oliver
Barron, died during a hip replacement operation, in April, aged 92.
Oliver
spent most of his working career with the BBC as a technical engineer, working
at Broadcasting House and also Bush House in London.
Oliver
joined the CR50 Club, in response to Fred Harvey`s first photographic magazine
advert, and when the Club eventually became the Colour Reversal Club, he
was the first News Editor, also for a while he was Secretary, also Area Leader
(as it was then) for Area 20. He arranged the first Area 20 meeting on the
4th. June 1973, at the King`s Head Swinton Street, Kings Cross, and all the
later meetings, at the Uxbridge Library. At the time Area 20 had 59 members.
He also gave some camera Club talks on processing, and of course, during
these he gathered some moremembers for the CRC.
Oliver,
for many years ran the Clubs chemical sales, until his eyesight got too bad,
and Ron Croad took over. He alsoorganised the first slide folio`s, and was
still in them up to when he died. While in hospital, and just before his
operation, he asked his daughter, Barbara to bring in the folio slides and
lightbox, so that he could view and mark them. When Pete Guy took over from
him, as Area Co-ordinator, he went to his house to collect all the files
etc, everything was in methodical order, with receipts and accounts going
back to the early years, also all the Newsletters from No.1,and Oliver spent
a whole afternoon telling him how to run the Area.
We
as a Club owe a great deal to Oliver, and his death must sadden us all. The
Club has sent its deepest sympathy to Oliver`s daughter, and friends. |
