Miditzer requires a PC with a sound card that can play MIDI
You should set your screen resolution to 1024x768 or higher.
I suggest that you start by playing with just a
mouse or the computer keyboard. Once that is
working you can add one or more MIDI keyboards to really play the
Miditzer. If you use sound fonts on your sound card the sound can be surprisingly realistic.
There is no version of the Miditzer for a
Macintosh at the moment.
Most modern PCs have a suitable sound card for playing MIDI. If you need more help, you might try this link to Microsoft help: Playing
Audio From MIDI Devices.
Start by downloading the Miditzer
program from VirtualOrgan.com. Be sure to sign up for the Miditzer News Letter while you are there. Execute the file and it will install the Miditzer. (tip) It may be
helpful to create a dedicated miditzer file where you
can store all miditzer downloads, decompressed Sf2
files, etc. This will facilitate easy location when
various files are needed. Start the program. You should see the
mainscreen:
Think of this place as your Base Camp. From here you can go and explore in a number of directions. But if you get lost or nothing seems to work, always remember that you can click on the screen with a mouse or play with the computer keyboard and Miditzer will work for you. Doesn't work? Click the mouse, make a cup on coffee and figure out what you are going to do next.
On the Console Up!
page, you'll learn how to set up and use the Miditzer.
The Miditzer controls the sounds produced by your PC. It does not create the
sounds. You will get the best sound if you have a sound card that
can use SoundFont® compatible sound
banks.
The Creative SoundBlaster Live! or Audigy cards are the most common sound cards with SoundFont support.
The Live! is quite inexpensive.
The Creative Audigy 2 NX is an external box that will provide SoundFont support using a USB connection.
If you go into the Creative files you should find a program called "Creative Recorder". It is also called "What U Hear". This enables you to record whatever is coming through your sound card including what you are playing on your Miditzer and any streaming audio that you are listening to.
A word of warning. If you are playing make certain that Miditzer is the top screen otherwise you cannot change registration.
When you are ready to use sound fonts, go to the Installing Soundfonts page and then come back here.
If you want to configure Miditzer to accept the MIDI input from your keyboards or organ, then go to the Configure input devices page and then come back here.
